1. Who We Are, And What We Are Not

OpenTips is an information service, listing platform, and progress-tracking tool for human hair care that helps you understand your hair and answer the question, "What should I do with my hair?" Through smart AI, a rich knowledge base, and a community of experts, we provide personalized insights and monitoring tools to help you make your own informed decisions. We connect you to the right products, techniques, and professionals, but the choices are always yours, to help you achieve your healthiest, most beautiful hair. All content is for educational purposes only, and we are not liable for outcomes arising from your use of the platform. OpenTips is your guiding light in the world of human hair care.

OpenTips is not a shop. When you buy a product, book a salon or engage a specialist through OpenTips, your contract is with that seller, salon or specialist - not with us. We do not take payment for those purchases, we do not hold your money, and we are not a party to your order. Delivery, refunds, returns, warranties and complaints about a purchase are matters between you and the seller.

Where we sell something ourselves, a premium subscription, or an OpenTips e-book, we say so plainly on the screen where you buy it, and those purchases are with us.

2. Not Medical Advice

Everything on OpenTips, articles, tips, ingredient information, product matching, our AI assistant and photo analysis, is general information about hair care. It is not medical, dermatological or professional advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for seeing a qualified professional/specialists.

If you have hair loss, a sore, bleeding or infected scalp, a reaction to a product, a chemical burn, or any symptom that concerns you, please see a doctor or trichologist. Do not delay seeing one because of anything you read here.

Products can cause reactions. Patch-test anything new, read the pack, and stop using it if your skin reacts. Ingredients and formulations change between batches, and the pack in your hand is always more authoritative than a listing.

3. Your Account

You must be 18 or older to hold an account. Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if someone else uses your account. You are responsible for what happens under it.

4. What You May Not Do

Do not: post anything unlawful, abusive, hateful, harassing or sexual; post someone else's personal information; impersonate anyone; offer to sell things in community posts or comments; post medical claims presented as cures or treatment; write or arrange fake reviews; scrape the service; or use OpenTips to promote counterfeit, stolen or unsafe goods.

5. Reviews And What You Post

Reviews on OpenTips come from OpenTips members. You may review a product, salon or specialist you have actually engaged with, once, honestly, in your own words. You may not be paid or otherwise rewarded for a review without saying so in it, and you may not review your own business or a competitor's.

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, store and distribute it as part of the service, including after you delete your account where we must keep it for legal reasons. You confirm you have the right to post it, including any photo.

We may remove or hide anything that breaks these terms or our Community and Moderation Policy, and we will tell you why.

6. Product Listings And Prices

Listings, prices, availability and shipping information come from sellers, brands and merchant feeds. We show you when a price was last confirmed. Prices change, and the price at the seller's checkout is the price that counts. Always check it there before you buy.

We rank and personalise what you see. That is a filter built from what sellers tell us and what you told us about your hair - it is not an endorsement, a safety assessment, or a promise that a product will suit you. We do not test products.

7. How We Make Money

Some sellers pay us a subscription to list. Some links earn us a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Some placements are paid advertising, and are labelled. We say which applies on each product, and the full explanation is in "How OpenTips makes money".

8. Premium And Payments To Us

Premium subscriptions and OpenTips e-books are billed through the app store you installed from, under that store's terms. Cancel or request a refund through your app store account. Prices may change with notice.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy Notice explains what we collect and why. Photo analysis runs on your device by default; photos you choose to save are stored privately to your account and you can delete them at any time.

10. Our Liability

We provide OpenTips with reasonable care and skill, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that listings are accurate, or that any product will work for you.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from a purchase you make from a seller, from a product you use, from a salon or specialist you engage, or from acting on general information in the app. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 100.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local law gives you, and nothing in these terms takes those away.

11. Suspension

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it. You may close your account at any time.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. For material changes we will tell you in the app and ask you to accept the new version. Continuing to use OpenTips after that means you accept it.

13. Law And Contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Nigeria have jurisdiction - except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also bring proceedings in your own country, and the mandatory consumer law of your country still applies to you.

13. Licence To Use The App

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use OpenTips for your own use and, if you are a seller, salon or specialist, to run your own listing. You may not copy, modify, translate, distribute, sell or lease the app, reverse engineer it, remove any notice from it, or use it to build a competing service. We may withdraw this licence if you break these terms.

14. Our Intellectual Property

OpenTips, its name, logo, artwork, articles, the Hair Guide, our written guidance and the software are owned by us or licensed to us, and stay ours. Nothing here transfers them to you beyond the licence in section 13.

15. Ai-Generated Answers

Answers from Ask OpenTips are generated by a language model, and generated answers can be wrong, incomplete or out of date - including when they sound certain. Check anything that matters before acting on it, and see section 2 on medical questions. Do not present an OpenTips answer as professional advice, and do not use one to mislead anyone.

16. Your Photos

You keep ownership of every photo you add. By adding one you confirm it is yours to use, and that anyone identifiable in it agrees to it appearing here. Do not upload photos of children, photos taken without permission, or anything unlawful. You give us permission to store and display your photos only as needed to run the parts of the service you used them in.

17. Other People's Content And Links

OpenTips shows content from members, sellers and brands, and links out to other websites and apps - a seller's shop, a tutorial on YouTube, a map for directions. We do not control those, we are not responsible for them, and a link is not an endorsement. Their terms and privacy policies apply once you leave.

18. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our not enforcing something straight away does not mean we have given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if our business is transferred, and your rights are not reduced by that.
